Please join us for a night to celebrate Miranda’s second chance at life and help raise money for her after surgery expenses. Miranda has been a resident of the bay area for the past 13 years. She has never had a full breath of air. She has lived with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) her whole life, and life with CF is coughing, coughing and more coughing….always being short of breath. CF is a terminal lung disease, and Miranda is one of the fortunate ones to have made it to the age of 36. Approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States have cystic Fibrosis. The only hope for people with CF is a lung transplant.

There will be a silent auction from 6-8pm featuring art work from David O’Brien, Seth Orgain, Masako Miki, Megan Spendlove, James Howard, Salem, Terms, and Miranda Fae. We will also be auctioning off a 2 night stay on the Big Island of Hawaii, tattoo time with Salem at Ocean Ave. Tattoo and many other items not to be missed! We hope you can make it to this eclectic event benefiting an amazing woman who has a second chance at life!

You are warmly invited to attend an epic evening at 111 Minna Gallery benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation and their fight against Parkinson’s disease. We’ve organized this event to bring old and new friends of the Foundation together for an entertaining night of art, music and libations in San Francisco and raise funds for their important work.

A full cash bar will be open beginning at 7:00 and light appetizers will be served. There will be a silent auction of awesome items from around Northern California to be sought after. As a requirement of the venue, attendance is limited to those 21 and older. Your $25 ticket will provide entry to the evening and subsidize some of the event costs. The majority of the ticket proceeds will be a direct donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

It is our hope and goal that this evening will become an annual tradition for those in and around San Francisco to support the valuable work of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. We look very forward to having you be a part of this inaugural evening.

Why Team Fox?

Arts Ed Matters is a seedling non-profit committed to advocating for the arts in San Francisco public schools and serving as a platform of connectivity for like-minded activists. Please join us for our premiere fundraising event on September 17th from 5-9pm: a thoughtfully curated silent art auction at 111 Minna Gallery complete with a full bar and live entertainment.

Proceeds from event sold will help us to address the most pressing needs of a new non-profit, including helping us to build an informative website and jump start our programming and outreach. Current projects on our priority list include coauthoring a concise presentation for Parent Associations with the Visual and Performing Arts Office (VAPA) of the San Francisco Unified School District. We are also supporting VAPA’s future “parent partner” program, a collaborative effort between arts coordinators and parent volunteers.

Here’s the story…

Mona an is an amazing 33-year old civil rights activist, international human rights attorney, and a passionate San Francisco resident who is dedicated to social change. Mona is fighting a disease that most people don’t know can put you in a wheelchair, take away your cognitive function, cripple you, and take away your life – late-stage Lyme Disease. Yes, these symptoms are all transmitted by a little tick (which are endemic to Northern California, despite contrary belief by much of the public).

Mona has been fighting this harrowing disease for five years and is currently $150,000 in debt from out of pocket medical bills. Mona pays $12,000 a year for health insurance but they won’t cover her IV medications (despite numerous failed appeals), which amount to about $4,000 per MONTH. Because of these debilitating symptoms, Mona hasn’t been able to work and has been attached to an IV pole, the couch, and an isolated existence since 2007.

Mona and her parents have maxed out their credit cards; her parents cashed out their retirement savings to pay for her medical bills and her dad moved to Idaho last week to take a job so he can keep up with Mona’s medical bills. But it’s still not enough. She will need the IV meds for at least another six months (another $24,000) and has no way to pay it for it.

MONAPALOOZA will help Mona continue to fight for her life by paying her medical bills, educate the public about the realities of Lyme Disease, and allow Mona to get her life back!

In August, as a result of a motorcycle accident, Spor Virus (AKA Todd Smith) lost his foot. The at-fault driver performed a hit-and-run and, when caught was found to have no insurance. So, we summon the good friends of SF to help this good man find a worthy prosthetic. That is why Sacred Rose Tattoo has put together this Benefit at 111 Minna to help raise support for Spor, so that he may in turn support himself–literally!

The event will include a silent auction of art, donated by the artists of Sacred Rose Tattoo along with some friends. We will also have the following live bands playing:  Sistas in the Pit | Cleve-Land | MILF | Ani DiFranco’s Dick

This event will also include an awesome raffle!  Prizes include a case of wine, Mark Mothersbaugh posters, and ten Gift Certificates for Sacred Rose Tattoo of $100 each!

We are asking for a minimum of $5 for donation at the door, which will get you two raffle tickets, so everyone is automatically entered into the raffle upon entry! Additional raffle tickets are $2/each.  Donations of over $20 will receive a free, old-school Sacred Rose Tattoo t-shirt (while supplies last).

Come join us as we rock out, spin out and dance out to fight the cure! This night of magical music delight will start out with DJ Richa spinning some of our favorite tunes- come early as to not miss out on two of our favorite new local bands- Porcupine Racetrack, who will rock our hearts out with a soul-wrenching special acoustic set followed up by Blisses B who will keep us in the mood to move with their unique and melodious folk jam sound. By nights end, it will be time to get dirty with the Bay Area’s own DJ Nisus, who will be throwing down his unique sound of dirty French disco beats with bass thumping rhythms. Known throughout the bay area and beyond for his electro beats, Blasthaus’ resident DJ’s sounds will cure the music and help us save lives….
