RAW’s mission is to provide up-and-coming artists of all creative realms with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity so that they might be seen, heard and loved. RAW educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in 22 artistic communities nationwide through monthly showcase events. Join us in celebrating the work of these artists.

What can I expect?
RAW events are multi-faceted artistic showcases. Each event features a film screening, musical performance, fashion show, art gallery, performance art and a featured hairstylist and makeup artist. These artists are all local, hand-picked talent who have been chosen to feature at RAW.

RAW events feature a cash bar for cocktails while you enjoy the night. Dress code is cocktail attire, so dress the occasion and get ready for an artistic circus of creativity!

sf|noir is a non-profit arts organization founded in 2001 out of a passion for artistic expression and a desire to help bring about a greater awareness of the contributions of African Americans and the African Diaspora to art and culture. The organization was also formed to fill a void that has been continually expanding in San Francisco, whereby the visibility of African American “creatives” and the culture and communities they represent has been shrinking.

POPOMO | A night of the intangible presented by Kitsch and Fuzzz featuring current post-post modern activity. The Fuzzz room will host an exhibition of avant-garde and obscure music videos followed by guest DJs Boyz IV Men. Hosts Snaps and Claps will close the night with their signature blend of montage video projections accompanied by the latest chill-wave, dream-bop jams via Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, Yeasayer, Washed Out and more.

The Kitsch room will contain mixed media, installation and performance works by Ana Belen Cantoni, Allysun Dutra, Nikki Mirsaeid, Carissa Potter, Myrina Tunberg and others. Music by First Family, Great Willow and Yoshi Omori.

Out of the ashes of a San Francisco that once was comes a collective submersion to create, perpetuate and re-perpetuate the collective subversion. Experience the experience you’re already experiencing.

Kitsch was established in June 2009 and is located in the SF Mission District. It includes artists studios and a gallery given for art exhibits, sound shows, film and video installation, experimental performances, workshops, lectures and other events. Kitsch is managed and organized by three local art students, along with the precious help of all resident artists and close friends.
Kitsch is also given for residency to artists who can utilize the space to create, install and display work. Kitsch is designed and functions as a place for practicing and promoting the arts. It is essential to our ideology that we can provide a venue for the promotion of experimental and creative ideas and practices.

Fuzzz is a sexually-ambiguous-avant-garde-monthly dance party. Snaps and Claps host and DJ this event which has a different musical and fashion theme each month. Fuzzz pays tribute to more obscure musical sub-genres of the past but also includes new pop/anti-pop trends as well. Although Fuzzz is primarily a dance night, it may also include live performance and fashion shows. Montage video projections are present at every Fuzzz.

Fuzzz was founded in 2010 at Bollyhood by Snaps and Claps in response to San Francisco’s obsession with music of the past. It functions to both preserve that history and to showcase it alongside the plethora of current and groundbreaking new music that its’ creators feel is being overlooked.

Friends of El Shadai is a champion of the One World Children’s Fund (OWFC) working to support the El Shadai family foster home in Bugembe, Uganda. It is a concept started by four friends who wish to bring awareness about Africa, poverty, AIDS and humanity. As “Friends of El Shadai” we believe that every action we take to bring possitive changes in Africa, will result in greater goodness of the entire world.

The prevailing situation of HIV/AIDS, poverty and violence in Uganda have left many children orphaned. Friends of El Shadai (www.friendsofelshadai.com) – is a SF-based organization, whose mission is to provide over forty orphans of the El Shadai Foster Home in Jinja, Uganda with shelter, education, medical care and other life necessities.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the building of the Family home in Jinja. The purpose is to create a safe, healthy environment for the children to help them heal the traumas of being abandoned or losing one or both parents to a deadly disease. The new conditions will allow for counseling, health education, continued development of various skills, which the children will benefit from in the future. We seek to empower the El Shadai orphans to become healthy, independent and socially responsible members of the society.

Beats for Boobs 2009

On Friday, October 23rd, Beats for Boobs will host its 6th its annual fundraiser at 111 Minna Gallery. Beats for Boobs was originally founded in 2003 by Juliana Cochnar in honor of her mother who is a breast cancer survivor.

The popular annual fundraiser seeks to educate the community on breast cancer through a collaborative celebration of art, fashion, food and music. Proceeds from Beats for Boobs benefit the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF) and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. BCEF provides short-term emergency financial assistance to low-income San Franciscans battling breast cancer and also makes referrals to agencies that can provide longer-term care. The well-known Komen Foundation aims to eradicate breast cancer through research, education, screening and treatment.

This year’s theme is “Green is the new Pink” and will center around healthy living. Knowing that environmental toxins are one of the leading causes of disease, cancer, birth defects, asthma, and reproductive harm, Beats for Boobs will help educate people on how to reduce exposure in their own lives. The best cure for breast cancer is prevention.

Beats for Boobs raised over $15,000 at the 2008 event and hopes to increase that number to $25,000 this year. By purchasing tickets or making a donation, you can share the vision of a world without breast cancer.
