San Francisco Green Drinks (SFGD) holds a social networking extravaganza for several hundred green professionals at 111 Minna.

Who We Are?

SFGD is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that actively promotes green networking, education and volunteer events in the San Francisco Bay Area. SFGD’s mission is to be the eco-conscious hub, both on and offline, for local individuals, organizations, and businesses that aim to strengthen and support the exploding bay area green community.Our History

San Francisco Green Drinks was founded in 2003 with the simple desire to provide a networking opportunity for environmental professionals. From entry-level job seekers to upper-level professionals, a diverse mixture of intelligent locals became the core attendees of SFGD. Average attendance has grown dramatically from 20 people in the early years to well over 300; we are now one of the largest monthly gatherings of green professionals in the country. This naturally evolving social phenomenon demonstrates the thirst for connection, knowledge, and opportunity that exists across the Green Drinks network.

Here, Howard talks about a lifetime of translating essential French authors, including Charles Baudelaire, Roland Barthes, and Alain Robbe-Grillet.

About Sketch Tuesdays:

Sketch Tuesdays offers the local arts community a place to congregate, to talk, to create and to be seen. There is usually room for artists to just drop in and start drawing, but the main seats are reserved for the invited artists. Art is for sale at reasonable prices (from $5 to $100, with most works under $20) and are displayed as they are created throughout the evening. This is a great opportunity to start collecting and to meet some very talented people!

500 pixels. One night. Come to 111 Minna on Friday, February 24th to take part in “Resolution”, a new art experiment by Paul Hayes. As you arrive, you will receive coordinates corresponding to squares on our wall grid. Paint the specified color in each of your squares, then stand back and watch everyone else do the same. We’ll all see the image emerge, pixel by pixel, as everyone paints in their squares. The crowd itself will be the art making machine, the wall is our canvas, and the mural will only exist for this single weekend. Be part of the first event of its kind, and help bring the painting to life without even knowing what you’re making. What will the result look like? You’ll just have to show up and help paint it to see.

Doors open for painting at 4pm, mural complete by Midnight.Born in Southeast Massachusetts in 1977, Paul Hayes received a BFA in Illustration in 1999 from Rhode Island School of Design, where he often found sculptural or theatrical solutions to traditional illustration assignments. He has been living and working in San Francisco since 2001, where his interests have migrated toward site-specific installation and conceptual art. Examples of Hayes’ works have been shown at the SF Arts Commission Gallery, the Exploratorium, Alcatraz, Johansson Projects Gallery, and the SF Museum of Craft and Design.

Henry Lewis

As a tattooist, my painting work pokes fun at the social, cultural, and political issues in the tattoo community. I execute my ideas by deconstructing traditional Americana and “flash art,” giving new life to these antiquated images. For this body of work I am teaming up with a longtime brother in arms, Lango Olivera.

My artwork is made out of the necessity and urge to express myself outside of the tattooing world. With each piece I plunge into a new, unexplored dimension where fantastic beasts fight through mythological scenarios representative of the human experience. After years of working together in the tattoo shop, sharing a studio, and spending long nights seeking inspiration from heavy metal, Henry Lewis and I now join forces to see what hybrid creatures we can create.

Alec Huxley continues to explore a wide range of subject matter through a detailed but softened figurative style. His creative skills were honed while drawing inspiration from living in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square and southern industrial neighborhoods. This combined with his love of light and shadow, the geometry of structures and spaces, as well as the innate and oftentimes enigmatic drama of life and art. A self-taught painter, he captures cinematic-like cityscapes and intimate, familiar interiors. Ghostlike figures wax and wane through the scenery and at other times, well-dressed men and women donning space helmets drift amongst the distinctive architecture of San Francisco. Working methodically through photographs, many works are filtered by a dominant color, contemplating the diffusion of light through each space.

After many years in the Pacific Northwest he recently transplanted to San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood. His background includes graphic design, photography, studies at The School of Visual Concepts and The Photo Center Northwest, both in Seattle, a BA from the University of Puget Sound and a career in the printing industry before committing to art full time in 2009. Alec is also the founder of Adult Flavored Pudding. His work can be seen at alechuxley.com.
