111 Minna Gallery is proud to present “Everyday”, an exhibition showcasing new works by group of Californian tattoo artists including Shawn Barber, Mike Giant and Mike Davis. The gallery will be hosting an ARTIST-ATTENDED opening reception on Thursday, September 2, 2010, 5pm-late. 21+

‘Everyday’ is an attempt to shine a different light on a group of artists who have been involved in the tattoo practice and part of the shop culture. A variety of other media, not simply tattoo designs, will be on display to capture another side of the tattoo culture, the everyday lives of these artists, which can be viewed as a unique subculture in itself. Viewers will gain a different insight to the artistic commitment, nature and practice through this unique and candid exhibition.

The exhibition has been curated by, for 111 Minna Gallery, by Andres Guerrero (owner and director of the Guerrero Gallery, in San Francisco) with assistance from 111 Minna Gallery Curator Jay Howell and Gabe Scott.

Bringing you FREE live music during Happy Hour (5-9), SHOWNUFF is happy to present LONDON STREET, laying down a smooth mix of neosoul, R&B and funk for your boogie-get-down enjoyment. Mostly influenced by old school R&B and influenced by groups like Earth, Wind and Fire, Prince and The Roots; London Street brings something completely unique to the table. Guest DJ.

When it comes to the bass, Jenn Curiel has a style all her own. Smooth and rhythmic, she never skips a beat. Growing up in Los Angeles, she studied the baritone horn for several years before deciding to switch to the bass guitar. Her musical roots stem from bass legend Verdeen White and his groundbreaking group Earth, Wind and Fire. Similar to Verdeen, Jenn designs unique and distinctive bass lines that compliment the melody.

Lesley Grant brings sweet and sultry vocals to this great ensemble. Growing up in Georgia, she was raised on contemporary gospel music. Singing in church functions with her family from age 6, her voice developed amongst a community of spirit-filled singers. She learned how the power of harmony, and the strength of melody can charm a listener. Her influences are imbedded in soul music and unique lyricists, and range from the late, great Donny Hathaway to Ani DiFranco.

Forming in San Francisco eight years ago, London Street has enjoyed many successes. They have performed in such highly esteemed San Francisco venues as the Great American Music Hall, Slim’s, The Elbo Room, Rasselas Jazz Club, and many others. In addition, they have captivated large crowds at great festivals like The Haight Street Fair, Bay To Breakers, SF Pride Festival, and High Sierra Music Festival and the Slow Food Music Festival. They have toured the West Coast from Washington to San Diego, and internationally with reknowned acts such as india.arie, Angie Stone, Eric Sardinas , Sistas in the Pit, and the Kofy Brown Band at the Blue Balls Festival in Lucern, Switzerland.  Most recently, London Street took their soulful sounds to the island of Maui in Hawaii.

Locally, they’ve opened for great acts such as John Legend and Ozomatli. London Street is also building their soulful reputation by playing the Poster Room Lounge inside the famous Fillmore Auditorium while major acts like Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, Raphael Saadiq, and the Roots, take the main stage. London Street has received critical acclaim with the release of their debut album, “Life Through Lyric and Melody.”

The girls are currently in the studio working on their follow-up album, “FutuReality.” London Street is taking it to the next level with this album. Sure to be a hit! London Street is building a reputation based on a solid, energetic, and heartfelt live performance. Their fierce and inspiring original songs draw their influences from seventies R&B and Funk, and are able to lift the spirits of any audience. The first Tuesday of every month, San Francisco Green Drinks (SFGD) holds a social networking extravaganza for several hundred green professionals at 111 Minna.

Who We Are

SFGD is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that actively promotes green networking, education and volunteer events in the San Francisco Bay Area. SFGD’s mission is to be the eco-conscious hub, both on and offline, for local individuals, organizations, and businesses that aim to strengthen and support the exploding bay area green community.

Our History
San Francisco Green Drinks was founded in 2003 with the simple desire to provide a networking opportunity for environmental professionals. From entry-level job seekers to upper-level professionals, a diverse mixture of intelligent locals became the core attendees of SFGD. Average attendance has grown dramatically from 20 people in the early years to well over 300; we are now one of the largest monthly gatherings of green professionals in the country. This naturally evolving social phenomenon demonstrates the thirst for connection, knowledge, and opportunity that exists across the Green Drinks network.

LOVEBOAT is THE HOTTEST party to hit the bay area. LOVEBOAT is a nautically-themed party captained by yacht rock masters Mustache Harbo. It’s like stepping on to the deck of the QE2 and being magically whisked away to the early 80s on a fantastic voyage of music and shenanigans. -reporter. This party is on land – we wouldn’t want any poor sap drowning overboard.

Walking onboard, what can I expect?
You will be greeted by beauties with leis around neck. Sip a tropical drink (pina coloda, margarita, mai tai, etc.), enjoy live music by amazing musicians and entertainers Mustache Harbor. Costumes are welcome! Be prepared for the elements – Live tropical thunderstorms and fog. Lasers – they were hot in the 80s and we see no exception now. Revel at a gorgeous view of the bay at night. Get your photo taken against a beautiful sunset backdrop with your friends, or your sweetie. You can meet the Sassy Sea Lion, and believe me, Sassy is sassy! Limbo, Lambada, Get Loose! Dance!

COSTUMES you say?
You may come in costume (or not). You will admittedly have much more fun in costume and as a participant. You can be as ridiculous or as conservative as you’d like in costuming. Some ideas: captain, sailor, grass skirt and coconut bra, board shorts, shirts, mustaches, sunglasses, etc., get creative.

So what is this so-called Yacht Rock anyway?
The year was 1982. Bands like Hall and Oates, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Kenny G, Stevie Nicks, Toto, Christopher Cross, to name a few dominated the airwaves armed only with mustaches and the cojones in their trousers. This term Yacht Rock is defined by popular soft rock that peaked between the years of 1975 and 1984.

111 Minna Gallery is pleased to announce the ninth ‘Sketch Tuesdays’ of 2010 and the 48th time we’ve held the event! Each month the gallery hosts an evening of live art making featuring both established and emerging Bay Area artists. Inspired by Southern Exposure’s Monster Drawing Rally, 111 Minna offers patrons the opportunity to see local artists at work and get acquainted with them. It is also a way for artists to meet each other and to be inspired by each other’s creative process.

Sketch Tuesdays offers the local arts community a place to congregate, to talk, to create and to be seen. There is usually room for artists to just drop in and start drawing, but the good seats are reserved for the invited artists.

Art is for sale at reasonable prices and will be displayed until the event closes.
This is a great opportunity to become a collector and to meet some very talented people!!
